It is foolish to be afraid of death. JUST THINK!!
No more repaired tires on the body vehicle,
no more patchwork living.
Paramhansa Yogananda Hoddy Nakamura, 81, was a man who always had a ready smile and a corny joke to tell anyone willing to listen and laugh.
To those he loved, he would pass out little gifts, and those little gifts were always given with heartfelt kindness.
His smile and his joy were most evident when he was just hanging out with his grandchildren in his "workshop" garage. Together they would tinker about, and make little flashing LED toys.
Hoddy will be missed by all those who were touched by his joy.
He was born in Sublette, Wyoming on May 23, 1926, and his name that everyone knows him by, "Hoddy" while original , is not on his actual birth certificate. He was named "Harry", but because his Japanese speaking mother, Tome Mitsuiki could not pronounce the "R" sound, his name soon became "Hoddy" forever after.
Hoddy was a good name for someone who marched to his own drummer, and didn't always follow convention.
His fashion statement was his signature jumpsuits, (he had one in almost every color) and let's not forget his high top basketball shoes, and baseball caps.
Though his academic passion and career were math and engineering, Hoddy also loved poetry, and could quote you a sonnet from any number of great poets. He also loved to quote verses from the bible.
Hoddy left this earth, after having had 6 feet of his large intestine removed because of internal bleeding, which had been plaguing him throughout 2007. It was in post-op, that he suffered a major heart attack and never fully recovered. Hoddy passed away in Los Angeles on January 10, 2008.
Hoddy enjoyed his final Christmas with all his grandchildren around him, along with Mark, Cara, Penny & Harol. He was excited and happy to have been given a brand new flat screen, high definition television from "Santa" too. The new TV made watching his favorite football games even more exciting!
Hoddy & Manny paid a last visit to his home state of Wyoming this summer visitng Penny and Harol in Jackson Hole, and hiking around Slide & Jenny Lakes, and enjoying the majestic views of the Tetons.
We are all saddened by his untimely death, and poorer for the loss of his smile and jokes.
Hoddy joins his eldest son, Steve in heaven, and he'll also be in good company with his brothers Jack and Tom , and sister Betty. Maybe they can all have a pick-up game of hoops, or maybe they'll just do a little fishing.
Hoddy is survived by his wife; Manny, his son, Mark, daughter-in-law, Cara and daughter, Penny and son-in-law, Harol Koyama and eldest daughter Apryll, along with grandchildren: Weston (16), Kiyoko (12), Taye (9), Nathan (14), Joel (13), and Mauria (10).
You will live forever in our memories and hearts.
